Ohio became the 24th state to legalize recreational marijuana in 2024, and the trend continues. Moreover, federal agencies responsible for classifying controlled substances recommended downgrading cannabis' classification under the Uniform Controlled Substances Act from Schedule I to a Schedule III controlled substance. State and federal legislative and regulatory changes have significant consequences for the construction industry as employers attempt to find and retain talent and maintain drug-free workplaces. Employers with multiple locations struggle keeping up with ever changing state and local laws and the consequences of increased access to legalized marijuana throughout the country.
